8 Months Old Today!

Wow!  I can't believe it!  These past 8 months have flown by.  Our little boy is growing up so fast.  It's been a LONG while since I've posted, so there are tons of new updates.

He weighs 20+ lbs now.  We'll get actual stats at his 9 month appointment.  He is still a great eater and now has 3 meals a day plus a snack.  He also nurses 4-5 times a day and once at night...which means, he still doesn't sleep through the night.  We just don't have the heart to let him cry-it-out, but we are convinced that if we just keep sticking to his routine he will get it eventually (or, at least by the time he goes to college).

Now, on to other things...

A Few New Tricks

He claps!  He started this just a few days ago and now does it all the time!  He will do it for Pat-a-cake and when we say "Yay!" or just to get attention from us.  We got a video of him doing it a couple of days ago and will post it tomorrow.

He dances, too!  Whenever one of his toys plays music or mommy and daddy sing to him, he shimmies his whole body.  It has got to be the cutest thing I've ever seen.  I don't think we've gotten a video of this yet, but will soon.

He walks down the hall holding our hands.  At bath time, he almost runs (he loves bath time!) and stops to hop every now and then.  It is too cute!

He says, "Dada".  I don't think it's directed at daddy all the time, but he's definitely learning.  I also think he's really close to saying, "Hi"....which brings me to his next new trick...

Talking on the phone!  He LOVES to hold the phone to his ear.  Sometimes he will actually 'talk', but most of the time he just smiles really big before trying to chew on it.

He feeds himself...not for all of his meals, but snacks.  He has mastered the pincher grasp and chewing, so he has now fed himself puffs, cheerios, toast, crackers, pieces of ripe pear and banana, and carrots.

He has been trying really hard to pull up in his crib so we had to drop the mattress a few days ago.  He is also trying really hard to crawl.  I think he will be there in the next few weeks.  Right now, he can get up on all fours, but then scoots himself backwards.  He rolls all over the place, though, and has figured out this great technique to get something just out of his reach - he turns up on his side, scoots with his feet, and turns back over until he reaches it.  Just today, though, he was working more at crawling, so we'll see....

6 Month Appt

So, Kason had his 6 month appointment yesterday (even though he is 6.5 months now).  He is a whopping 19lb 1oz and 27 inches long (I think this was a bad measurement).

In other news - After Kason's recent habit of waking every 15-20 minutes ALL NIGHT LONG, he ALMOST slept through the night last night.  He woke up at 2am to nurse and that was it!  Well, he did squeak a couple of times, but each time, after only 1 squeak, he was back asleep.  It was heavenly to get some uninterrupted sleep.

6 Months Old! (Yesterday)

Wow, can you believe it's been 1/2 a year already? I can't! Kyle and I were just talking last night about what we did before Kason on Friday nights and couldn't really remember. We were pretty sure, however, that it involved going in to town and spending unnecessary money. Don't get me wrong...we still spend unnecessary money, but it's usually on Kason instead of us. :)

Kason's 6 month well-baby appointment is still not for another couple of weeks, so you will get his new stats then (I'm guessing 19lbs and 28in long). We are going today to get some professional pictures done for the family and for Kason alone. I can't wait! The photographer that is doing the pics is AMAZING (ashliephotography.com/blog if you want to check out her work) and I can't wait to see her work with Kason.

On the food front - Kason has now tried:
rice cereal (eh...could take it or leave it)
oatmeal (LOVES it!)
carrots (YUMMY)
sweet potates (again...YUMMY)
squash (could take it or leave it)
applesauce (LOVES it!)
peaches (still up in the air - just started these last night)
pears (EWWW, mommy, do I have to eat this? I will if you say so, but I'd much rather have one of the above)
Sweet Potato Puffs (I break him off a little piece and put it on his tongue. He sucks on them while I get his real food ready)

He is an AMAZING eater. He just had 5Tbsp of oatmeal mixed with an entire container of stage 1 applesauce for breakfast and I had to make him stop eating then. His mouth was still wide open ready for more!

Growing up too fast!!

My little boy is growing up sooo fast. Last night, he was so restless in his sleep and kept waking up screaming. Tylenol and teething tablets weren't helping, so we assumed it was gas, but lo and behold, today we have a SECOND TOOTH! I love watching him grow up and learn and discover new things, but it just seems like it is going too fast. I want it to slooooow down!

Some more pics for your viewing pleasure :P

We Have a Tooth!

Two days ago, Kason began cutting his very first tooth. It is just poking through the gums right now. During the day, Kason doesn't seem all too phased by it (except for constantly gnawing on his hands). But, at night, oh BOY! The poor thing hasn't gotten a good night's rest in a few nights. Hopefully, it will be in all the way soon and he will get some much needed rest.

And, in other news, sweet potatoes were a miss the first night but a huge hit the second night (apparently, he likes them cold!).

So, I'm a little late with an update....

As it has been pointed out to me by a few people, I am just slightly overdue for an update. With the holidays (and my laziness), we have been very busy. Kason is growing up so fast and has accomplished many things in the past couple of months.

He can now:
roll both directions (finally learned back to belly)
sit up (once we put him in the sitting position)
blow raspberries back at us (not fun with a mouth full of cereal!)
laugh (ALL THE TIME!)

For the holidays, we took a VERY long 16+ hour car ride to Texas. Kason did great! He slept and played the whole way there. He was a little more fussy on the way back, but still did a good job. While we were there, he got to meet his cousins and his aunt Jean and uncle Jim for the first time and had so much fun! He is LOVING all of his new toys.

While in Texas, we took a detour to College Station for Kason's first trip to Aggieland! The real reason we were ther was for Kason's baptism. We decided to get him baptized at the church we attended while we were in college, A&M United Methodist Church.

Since we have been back, he has started going to his new sitter, Lisa. He seems to be doing very well there. She has 2 little boys that he, of course, loves to play with! We have also started on solids (just cereal right now). Boy, does he love his oatmeal! I think the constant battle with thrush and having to feed him that medicine 4 times/day really helped him get the hang of the spoon quickly.

He doesn't have his 6 month appointment until 6.5 months, but we think, right now at 5.5 months, he weighs somewhere near 18 pounds (probably a little more) and is REALLY long!

Now, what you've all been waiting for...the PICTURES (in no particular order)! Well, nix that...the add image button is not working. I will add from a different computer later this evening.

First Thanksgiving

So, Kason's first Thanksgiving was yesterday. His Grandma O came to spend a few days with us and we made a nice dinner here at home. It was yummy!

Kason got to experience his first black Friday shopping today and got a few toys for himself. He was very excited to get his new jumper, but unfortunately, he was too sleepy from all that shopping to try it out. So, we will be trying it out tomorrow.

Aside from Thanksgiving, this has been a big week for Kason. He is now rolling over consistently, reaching and grabbing for things, and we got our first belly laughs from him! So precious.

Tonight, I will leave you with a few of our DIY Christmas pics...4 month pics and Thanksgiving pics coming soon!

Free Time?!

Hmmm....so, Kason is blissfully sleeping in his crib right now and I am wondering what I am supposed to do with myself. We just watched CSI: Miami. Tonight's episode was about a kidnapping, which made me want to go pick up my baby and hold him tight. Kyle, of course, won't let me do that. So, I am sitting here updating his blog instead.

So, what's new with Kason, you ask? Well, he went to his very first concert two Saturdays ago. It was a Newsboys concert and he enjoyed the music very much. He is doing well in daycare. He has finally started napping there, but of course, naptime usually begins around noon, right when I am there to pick him up. Oh well, at least he's learning how to fall asleep somewhere besides home, his carseat, and on mommy.

The wonderful ladies at the school daycare always comment on how happy he is and how much he smiles. He is truly a happy baby, smiling just about every waking minute of his day. It really is awesome!

What else? He is beginning to reach for things. He can now grab and hold on to his toys on his activity mat and he loves to grab mommy's face. He has also learned a very high pitch squeal of delight...I just love it!!

3 Months Old & Lots of Updates

So, it has been a while...sorry! Anyhow, October was a big month for Kason. He weighs somewhere near 15 lbs now; probably more on the plus side of that. He is all smiles, especially for his friend, Ollie the Octopus. He has two versions of this guy and absolutely loves him! Now, we are just waiting for those smiles to turn into laughs - I can't wait to hear those baby belly laughs!

Besides waiting on laughs, we are also waiting on rolling over. He is so close to rolling from his back to his belly. He can roll from his back to his side and from his side to his belly, but he has yet to put it all together to roll from his back to his belly.

Some other things he did last month:

He went on his first plane trip and attended his first wedding.. We flew to Maryland towards the end of October to see Kyle's cousin Mike get married. He was sooo good on the plane, even after the layover and a very long travel day. He even got a chance to see MawMaw and Nanny during our first layover in Dallas.

At the wedding, he got to meet two of his cousins, Cody and Allison, for the very first time. He also met his Aunt Tina and Uncle Sean, as well as his aunt Samantha, along with his Great Grandma O. and the rest of Kyle's extended family. It was a great trip.

When we got back, he got to dress up for his very first Halloween. He was the cutest little monkey you've ever seen!

He also played Guitar Hero for the very first time with his buddy, Ken.

Last week, he tried out the Bumbo seat for the very first time. Sometimes, he is great with it and sometimes, he is a little lazy. It really just depends on the time of day.

This week, Kason started at daycare at my school. It has its perks - my students love getting to see him and I love getting to see him around campus when the daycare group goes for walks while I am in class. So, while it is nice to be able to take him to school with me and see him throughout the morning, I still really want him all to myself. I thought half days would be the perfect fit for us, but I am really just wanting to be with him all day. Maybe next year.
